Air-con my 1988 Mazda 626 puts out cool air when fan is on 1 but if higher the coolness of the air soon ceases?
I cannot figure out why. It’s as if once the setting is higher, though the rev counter shows the compressor working harder, it cannot get cool enough to cool the air the fan is pushing out. I assume it could be a lack of gas but it seems strange that it works ok on 1. Last summer it also put out cool air with the fan set on 2 but the coolness faded when turned to 3 or 4.
you should check it carefully

It’s probably just low on refrigerant. The compressor circulates the refrigerant throught the coils and the fan pick up the cold off of the coils and blows it through the vents. If the refrigerant is low, it the compressor can not the coils cold enough to keep up with the fan.
